Viking Welding & Fabrication: The Duncanville Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Viking-compatible welding and fabrication parts for driveway gates across Duncanville, with most hinge, bracket, and frame repairs completed the same day we arrive. Installed prices typically run $180 to $460 depending on the part and the extent of the welding required, and you’ll know the exact number before we strike an arc. The way most owners find us is simple: the gate starts dragging on the driveway, a hinge tears loose from the post, or the bottom rail rusts through after years of Texas rain and morning dew.

We’re an independent gate specialist, not affiliated with Viking. But we work on their gates every week, and we know exactly which welds fail first on their swing and slide models in our climate.

Which Viking Models This Applies To

Viking gates in Duncanville fall into two broad camps: the heavier swing models with welded steel frames and the slide models that ride on a track with welded guide brackets. The flat-bar and square-tube steel on Viking frames is good American steel, but the factory welds at the hinge plates and the corner joints are where we see the most failures after ten to fifteen years. That is not a knock on Viking. It is just what happens when a 400-pound gate cycles twice a day in North Texas heat and humidity.

When you call, have the gate’s model information ready if you can find it. Viking stamps a data plate on the frame, usually near the top rail or on the motor mount. If the plate is gone or painted over, measure the tube size: most Viking residential gates use 1-1/2-inch or 2-inch square tube, and some heavier estates run 2x2x1/4-inch angle stock. For hinge plates, the bolt pattern is the tell. Four-bolt plates versus six-bolt plates identify the series. If you can send us a photo, even better. Victor Salinas has matched enough of these over the years that he can usually identify the series from a picture while he is on the phone with you.

OEM Viking parts are available for newer gates, and we order them when they make sense. For older models where Viking has discontinued the part, we fabricate a replacement in-house from the same gauge steel, cut and drilled to match. The aftermarket route saves real money on discontinued pieces, and the fit is identical if the fabricator knows what they are doing. We do.

Signs Your Viking Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

  • Gate drags or scrapes at the latch end. The hinge welds have started to stretch or crack, letting the gate sag a half-inch to two inches. Left alone, the sag loads the hinges unevenly and the cracks spread fast.
  • Visible cracks at a hinge plate or corner joint. This is the classic Duncanville failure: a tiny hairline crack at the weld toe, usually where the hinge plate meets the frame rail. It grows every time the gate cycles, and one cold snap can finish the job.
  • Loose or wallowed-out bolt holes. The hinge plate bolts have worked back and forth in the post or the frame until the hole is egg-shaped. Replacing the bolts alone won’t fix it; the hole has to be welded up and re-drilled.
  • Rust stain running from a seam or joint. Moisture gets behind the weld, and that orange streak is the tell. By the time you see it, the corrosion has been working for a year or more. We grind it back, weld the seam solid, and re-coat with a rust-inhibiting primer that holds up in Texas humidity.
  • Gate bounces or wobbles mid-travel. A bracket somewhere has broken loose from the frame, and the gate now flexes as it moves. Every cycle makes the crack longer. On slide gates, a broken guide bracket can let the gate jump the track entirely.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For Viking welding and fabrication work in Duncanville, here’s what you’re looking at:

  • Hinge plate re-weld (per hinge): $95 to $180, depending on whether we can work in place or need to un-hang the gate leaf.
  • Corner joint crack repair: $120 to $220, including grinding, full-penetration weld, and anti-rust primer.
  • Custom bracket fabrication (discontinued Viking part): $140 to $300, cut from matching gauge steel, drilled to your bolt pattern, and installed.
  • Bottom rail rust-through repair: $180 to $460 if the section needs to be cut out and a new piece welded in. Prices vary with how much steel has to be replaced.

What drives the range is access. If we can reach the weld with the gate still on its hinges, it costs less. If the gate has to come down, be blocked up, and re-hung, that is more labor, and the labor is the honest majority of every welding bill. You will get the full price, parts and labor, before we start. No surprises on the invoice. Every welding and fabrication job we do is covered by our 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If the weld does not hold or the part does not fit right, we come back and make it right. No arguing, no paperwork.

DIY or Call Us?

If you want to check something yourself before calling, check the obvious: look for the crack, see if the gate sags, take a photo of the data plate so we can identify the model. That is genuinely helpful and costs nothing. But welding a gate frame is not a weekend project. A bad weld on a hinge plate lets a 400-pound gate leaf fall on a person, a car, or a grandchild. We work on these gates with proper jacks, clamps, and a welder who has been doing this in Duncanville since before most of these homes were built. Victor grew up off Clark Road and has spent his adult life working iron in these same neighborhoods. Let us handle the torch. The inspection and the estimate are free, and the number we quote is the number you pay.
